Emotional intelligence as a personality trait and burnout among preschool teachers

Research in the field of education is increasingly recognizing importance emotional intelligence (EI). This paper analyses connection between EI traits and burnout among preschool teachers, as well relationship these constructs length their work experience. Participants research were teachers (N = 64) employed system Belgrade, Serbia. Data on trait obtained through Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (TEIQue), which provides insight into certain factors this construct, namely: Well-Being, Self-Control, Emotionality Sociability. The Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI), a version adapted for was used to assess professional syndrome. results indicated Self-Control an factor predicting burnout, significant differences Well-Being factor, with significantly lower scores observed group most Significantly higher experience scales that related work, working children, terms total score burnout. Although not longitudinal study, findings suggest well-being (i.e., positive emotions, optimism, self-confidence) declines increasing experience, while other domains remain stable. At same time, there increase mental physical fatigue exhaustion stemming from demands workplace.
